From "Ultimate Pilates" by Dreas Reyneke

I always start my sessions with therapeutic massage, and you should do the same. This is not a Pilates technique, but one of my own, inspired by the Swedish pioneer of structural fitness, Per Henrik Ling. People who neglect exercise or whose exercise consists of mainly sports such as tennis or golf that work one side of the body more than the other, are often uncoordinated. Some muscles are overused and some underused. I find that massage helps my clients work towards a balance by easing rigidities created by tension. For example, the shoulder blades may be unaturally high because the rhomboids and lats are over-tight and unable to pull them back. Massage helps relax and free these muscles.

From "The Cellulite Solution" by Howard Murad

Murad beleives that when the dermis has been strengthened nutritionally to hold fat cells beneath the surface it is then worth considering certain treatments to enhance the topmost layer. "Regular massages, skin brushing and gentle exercise, such as walking, stimulate blood flow."
